Mind Over Matter

I was recently featured in a podcast interview back in August that I totally missed because I was off social. We recorded it back in May, so it slipped my mind but it's definitely worth a listen. Links are below to listen!

She named the episode "Mind Over Matter," and it got me thinking about this phrase we use so often in everyday life. I started thinking about what it means on a deeper level. I’ve found that there is profound truth and depth in the phrases we often use so casually, without truly embodying their deeper meaning. So, I wanted to take a moment to break down what it means to me on a deeper more spiritual level…

Before I dive into this, try something: ask yourself a simple question in your head—"What is my name?" Now, pause and listen for the answer.

Who answered?

It's fascinating to realize that this inner dialogue is part of our consciousness. We can communicate with ourselves on a strange level. Think about it—when you say, "I need to get myself to go to the gym," who exactly is "I," and who is "myself"?

“Mind over matter” isn't just about overcoming obstacles through mental strength—it's about recognizing that the power of the mind can transcend and reshape physical reality. It is that our thoughts, beliefs, and higher consciousness hold the potential to influence and transform the material world we experience.

Logically, we understand that our mental states can affect our physical health and performance, yet it is easy to fall into letting our physical reality influence what we believe to be true. It’s easy to dismiss these influences as mere coincidences rather than recognizing the true power the mind holds over matter.

But there’s a deeper, more profound aspect to consider.

In a spiritual sense, "mind over matter" is the idea that consciousness energy or mind (the higher mind / the higher self) has the ability to influence or transcend the physical body or matter (the lower mind / the ego self), which are tied to material limitations. These are the external things we believe will fulfill the deeper feelings we’re seeking.

We often believe that material possessions or external recognition will fulfill our deepest desires, but it’s actually the feelings we seek that the mind holds within. Something we can access at anytime.

The “higher mind”, or consciousness energy, represents our deeper awareness, intuition, and spiritual essence—the part of us that’s connected to a greater universal intelligence. It operates on a higher frequency, beyond the confines of the physical world, and is capable of guiding and shaping our reality through intention, focus, and belief.

The "lower mind," on the other hand, is often associated with ego, fear, and survival instincts—thought patterns that are rooted in the material world and can create feelings of limitation or separation. This lower mind tends to focus on obstacles, physical limitations, and external circumstances.

"Mind over matter," in this context, is the process of elevating our awareness and aligning with consciousness energy to move beyond the constraints of the physical body and lower mind. It’s about shifting from a reactive, fear-based mindset to a higher, more expansive state of being, where we can tap into our potential to create, heal, and manifest beyond physical limitations.

By raising our consciousness—simply meaning becoming more aware—we can influence the material world we experience. This alignment with the flow of energy and intention shapes our reality. Essentially, it’s a reminder that when our mind connects with our innate higher consciousness, it has the power to transcend the limitations of the physical body and the lower mind.

While it's important to use logical thinking to understand that our mind drives what we can achieve (like believing we can climb Mount Everest), there’s a deeper layer to "mind over matter." It’s also about connecting with our higher mind to see reality from a fresh perspective. Instead of letting physical reality dictate what we believe to be true, we can shape our perception of our experiences in a more profound and intentional way.

With love,

Stephanie
