THE MINDFUL EDIT
Quote of the Day
“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
-Maya Angelou
HEALTHY MIND
A healthy mind leads to a healthy life. It's about cultivating an empowering belief system, learning how to harness the power of your thoughts, and staying curious about new perspectives and possibilities.
If you ask disempowering questions, you’ll never find empowering answers.
Your mind is like a diligent problem solver, constantly scanning for answers to the questions you present it. But if your questions are rooted in negativity, fear, or self-doubt, your brain will naturally steer you toward answers that confirm those emotions. This will leave you in a cycle of frustration, hopelessness, and feeling stuck.
Let’s look at some examples of disempowering questions you may be subconsciously asking yourself:
“Why does this always happen to me?”
This question traps you in a loop of helplessness. It’s like putting blinders on your perspective, forcing you to focus only on the negatives in your life. Instead of looking for solutions, your brain starts searching for reasons to confirm that life is unfair and you’re powerless. Over time, this question leaves you feeling like a victim of circumstances rather than the author of your story.
“What’s wrong with me?”
This question digs at your sense of self-worth like a relentless critic. It amplifies insecurities and shines a spotlight on perceived flaws, real or imagined. When you ask this, you tell your brain to scour your life for evidence of your inadequacies, creating a mental echo chamber of self-doubt. It shuts down self-compassion and reinforces the belief that you’re not enough.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start.”
This is the mental equivalent of hitting a stop sign and deciding to turn back. It paralyzes progress before it can even begin, signaling to your mind that the problem is too big or complicated to tackle. Instead of encouraging exploration, it closes the door to possibility, making you feel stuck and defeated.
Let’s look at some empowering questions instead:
“What can I learn from this experience?”
This question invites curiosity and growth. Instead of framing challenges as failures, it reframes them as opportunities to uncover hidden insights and lessons. It’s like shining a flashlight into the dark corners of your situation, allowing you to see the value in the experience—even if it’s painful or difficult. This mindset encourages resilience and helps you grow stronger with each challenge.
“What’s one thing I can do to improve this situation?”
This question narrows your focus to a single, manageable step. It cuts through the overwhelm that often accompanies big challenges. By breaking the problem into smaller parts, it empowers you to take action instead of staying stuck in analysis paralysis. Each small victory builds momentum, reinforcing your ability to tackle bigger challenges ahead.
“How could I actually start?”
This question is an invitation to brainstorm possibilities. It replaces the anxiety of needing the “perfect” solution with the curiosity of exploration. By shifting the focus to the act of starting, it clears the path for progress. It encourages you to experiment and adjust as you go. It’s the first step toward motion and change.
“How can I use this challenge to become stronger?”
This question taps into your inner resilience, reframing adversity as an opportunity to grow. It shifts the focus from “Why is this happening to me?” to “How can I make this work for me?” It encourages you to find purpose in your struggles, creating a sense of empowerment and optimism that fuels a growth mindset.
Your brain is wired to answer the questions you feed it. It doesn’t judge the questions; it just gets to work finding answers. That’s why it’s so important to ask yourself questions that lead to solutions, growth, and empowerment.
Think of it like planting seeds in a garden. Negative questions are like weeds—they take over and choke out the flowers of potential. Positive, empowering questions are the seeds of possibility. The more you plant and nurture them, the more your mind blooms with new ideas, resilience, and hope.
This week, I challenge you to pause and reflect on the questions you’re asking yourself. Are they lifting you up or keeping you down? Are they inviting growth or holding you in place?
Remember, a simple shift in the way you frame your questions can open doors you didn’t even know existed.
With love and gratitude,
Stephanie
HEALTHY BODY
A healthy body leads to a healthy life. It's about nourishing yourself with whole foods, creating movement that feels good, and making mindful choices to reduce toxins in your environment.
This Week’s Non-Toxic Swap
This week's non-toxic swap is band-aids!
Many conventional band-aids contain PFAS—those "forever chemicals" that never break down. These synthetic chemicals are linked to so many health concerns, and we are placing them directly on an open wound when putting a band-aid on.
The reality is, PFAS are everywhere—in our water, food packaging, cookware, and even personal care products. While it’s impossible to avoid them entirely, mitigating exposure as much as possible is crucial. Small changes, like swapping out conventional band-aids for non-toxic alternatives, can make a big difference over time.
